The Carp Anglers Group (CAG) is North America’s longest running carp fishing organization. Established in 1993 it is dedicated to its mission to Support, Protect & Encourage Catch & Release Carp Angling.
The CAG Spring Big 4 is one of their two annual events. The Spring Big 4 begins March 15 and runs through June 15th with prizes awarded for the Biggest 4 carp caught by individual CAG Members across North America.
Today in America carp is not held in such high regard but it has a long and rich history throughout the rest of the world as both as a prized sport fish and excellent table fare. Even in America in the late 1800’s carp became an important food source in major cities as immigrants from Europe began to arrive and settle in their new country.
A very interesting read about carp in America can be found on the American Carp Society website at https://americancarpsociety.com/us-carp-history. I highly suggest you read this amazing account of carp in America. It covers everything from the history of its beginnings to the modern day methods and equipment for fishing for them. It may just move you to decide that carp fishing in America is something that you want to try. It even gives the reasons why in America how carp became to be looked down upon. I can attest that carp when properly harvested and prepared can be some of the best fish you’ve even eaten. My Uncle Wally’s smoked carp was some of the best smoked fish I have ever eaten.
I’m sure that if you’d join the Carp Anglers Group (CAG) you’d find plenty of people to help you get started and enjoy all the pleasures of carp fishing in America. https://www.carpanglersgroup.com/main/
